Spinal Decompression or Low Back Surgery?

drx9000 therapy san francisco, 94111
DRX9000 Lumbar Decompresion

We have been providing spinal decompression therapy in San Francisco for over 12 years.

One of more common reasons a herniated disc patient seeks spinal decompression is because they have been told they need low back surgery and they are looking for a less invasive option.

Spinal decompression machines are designed and built to treat lumbar disc bulges and herniations nonsurgically. Disc decompression also may help spinal stenosis, disc degeneration, and Facet Syndrome.

The treatment process is 100% natural. The protocol is for 20 one hour sessions over a six week period. You are on the machine for 30 minutes, then there is 10 minutes of muscle stimulation and 10 minutes of ice.  There is set-up time in between.

Most of the patients we treat have successful outcomes. For those that don’t they are still whole and able to pursue other treatment options, even surgery.

On the other hand…if you have back surgery and there is any kind of fusion, cement, wires or screws, you are permanently disqualified from ever trying spinal decompression.

Because of this it may make sense for you to try spinal decompression first.

Sure, if decompression fails to deliver you will be out some time and money, but at least you will know.

And the other thing is…not all spinal decompression treatment is the same. Just because a doctor has a spinal decompression machine does not mean they know how to use it. When it comes to spinal decompression therapy for disc herniations EXPERIENCE matters.

To find out if you are a candidate for spinal decompression in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation.

Spinal Decompression or Back Surgery?

decompression therapy san francisco
Lumbar decompression with the DRX9000

We have been providing spinal decompression therapy in San Francisco for over 9 years now. The machine we use is the DRX9000. Spinal decompression machines are designed and built to treat disc herniations, disc bulges, disc degeneration, and spinal stenosis non-surgically.

Many of our patients have been told they need back surgery and want to try something less invasive first. Unless your condition is a medical emergency and you risk paralysis without immediate surgery, there is most likely no harm in trying spinal decompression first to see if it may help.

Some back surgeons will scare the heck out of you…especially some of the overseas doctors that are not familiar with the latest advancements with nonsurgical treatments.

If we accept a spinal decompression patient then we feel there is a very good chance of a favorable outcome…and we are usually right. If we are wrong then you are still whole and can pursue other treatment options.

Surgery on the other hand is permanent and cannot be reversed. Even a discectomy,  whereby the herniated disc fragments are removed, alters your structure and can predispose you to problems down the road in the same area or different areas of the spine.  And, the surgery may or may not even make you feel better. The patients that seek us out do not want to take this chance…at least not first.

So, if you have a lumbar disc herniation and are experiencing low back pain, sciatica, leg numbness or tingling, weakness or night pain, you should consider spinal disc decompression. You can always try surgery.

Plus, depending on the type of surgery…if it is a “fusion” surgery, you will forever be permanently disqualified from ever trying nonsurgical spinal decompression.

Why not try it first?

To schedule a complimentary in house or phone consultation at our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center please call 415-392-2225.

DRX9000 spinal decompression

drx9000 in san francisco
Spinal Decompression Therapy with DRX9000

We have been treating disc herniations in San Francisco for over 21 years. About 8 years ago we began to incorporate nonsurgical spinal decompression with the DRX9000 into the mix.

The DRX9000 spinal decompression system is a computerized machine that is designed and built to treat lumbar disc herniations, bulges, stenosis, facet syndrome, and degenerative disc disease without drugs or surgery. The machine we have cost’s over $150,000 because it also treats disc herniations in the neck. There are much cheaper and less effective machines out there so beware.

DRX9000 spinal decompression is the Rolls Royce of spinal decompression systems. We like the machine because it is very comfortable for the patient while at the same time effective. Most of the patients we treat fall asleep during the treatment.

DRX sessions usually last about an hour or less. It takes a few minutes to set you up and harness you so we can connect you to the machine. You are on the machine for 30 minutes or so. Then, we do 10 minutes of electrical muscle stimulation to teach the spinal muscles to work with the spine in it’s new position, and 10 minutes of ice to reduce muscle spasms, pain, and inflammation. Sometimes we will incorporate deep tissue laser therapy if there is a lot of initial pain and inflammation in the beginning.

The DRX9000 treatment protocol is for 20 sessions over a 6 week period. Sometimes it takes more than this. We incorporate exercises at the halfway point. There is extensive home-care instructions including dietary and nutrition recommendations.

Success rates are very high.

Not all patients are accepted for care. You must qualify for treatment medically.

If you would like to find out if you are a candidate for spinal decompression in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation.

Pinched Nerve in the Low Back?

pinched nerve treatment san francisco
Pinched Lumbar Nerve Root of Sciatic Nerve

We have been providing treatment for low back pain and sciatica in the SF Bay Area for over 20 years now. We use a combination of chiropractic adjustments, massage, motion extension traction, custom exercises, deep tissue laser therapy, and nonsurgical spinal decompression when indicated. During this time we have helped over 5000 patients with low back pain and related disorders.

A primary cause of low back pain and sciatica is a “Pinched Nerve” in the low back. Pinched nerves are generally caused by herniated or bulging discs in the lumbar spine, most commonly at L5-S1.

Nerve tissue is very sensitive to pressure. In fact, just the weight of a pencil erasure on a nerve can alter it’s ability to function by 60% and cause severe pain and dysfunction.

The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body…it can be the diameter of a quarter at it’s greatest circumference. Bulging discs, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, disc degeneration, and various conditions like “Piriformis Syndrome” can put pressure on the sciatic nerve or nerve roots causing “pinched nerves”.

Typically, a patient will feel various combinations of low back pain, leg pain, numbness, tingling, aching, weakness, and muscle stiffness and spasms that become progressively worse over time. There can also be pinched nerves with no symptoms at all…for a while and then BOOM…when you least expect it lightning strikes. This is fairly common actually, and can be very alarming.

The solution for pinched nerves in the low back depends on the nature and severity of the problem. Conservative chiropractic, massage, laser, and ice are always the first thing we try. That is of course unless the patient is unable to handle it. In rare cases such as this we do laser and ice to try to reduce inflammation and then maybe some muscle stim and light massage.

Spinal decompression with the DRX9000 is also an option in the beginning as it is very safe and gentle. The DRX is designed and built to treat neurovascular compression syndromes such as bulging and herniated lumbar discs. However, the cost is greater than chiropractic as is the time commitment…so typically we try more conservative chiropractic first.

In any case, many chiropractors that have included disc decompression and deep tissue laser therapy into their protocols (such as us) have become “one stop shops” for pinched nerves due to herniated and bulging spinal discs.

If you or someone you know requires treatment for a pinched nerve in San Francisco, please call 415-392-2225. Mention this blog post for a complimentary consultation.

Sciatica Relief with Spinal Decompression

decompression therapy san francisco
Lumbar decompression with the DRX9000

We have been treating Sciatica in the San Francisco Financial District for over 20 years now. Most of the time, chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy will bring low back pain and sciatica under control. However, about 10-15% of the time it wont.

Sciatica is mostly caused by pinched nerves in the lumbar spine due to herniated and bulging discs. But sometimes the discs are trapped, injured, and lodged into place and it is beyond the scope of chiropractic or physical therapy…what now?

Well…up until about 10 years ago we would need to refer out for surgical consultation and possibly back surgery. That is when we decided to purchase our first DRX9000 lumbar spinal decompression system.  We did extensive research on decompression machines and chose the DRX9000 because it was the best. The DRX9000 is designed and built for maximum results and patient comfort. Sure, it was the most expensive machine on the market, but you get what you pay for.

Anyway, we now have a “next step” for low back pain and sciatica patients that do not respond to conventional therapies. The DRX9000 actually targets the specific spinal level where the disc bulge or herniation is and over the course of about 20-24 visits rehabilitates and restores the injured disc to the extent healing is possible. That’s right…this is NOT magic and there are limitations to matter. But still…in the overwhelming majority of all cases the patients are satisfied with the outcomes and many choose ongoing maintenance care (optional).

So, if you are looking for sciatica relief in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation with one of our spinal decompression doctors.

Disc Bulges and Herniations: Most of Us Have Them

decompression therapy san francisco
Lumbar decompression with the DRX9000

Disc Bulges and Disc Herniations are Common. That’s right. If we were to randomly select 100 people off the street and perform a diagnostic MRI to their lumbar spines, 60%+ would reveal disc bulges or disc herniations.

And most would not even have any symptoms or loss of function. But some would have severe low back pain and sciatica and be unable to function normally.

Heck, 80% or more of us will have a bout of severe back pain at least once in our life. And the #1 predisposing factor to chronic back pain is previous back pain. Back pain is epidemic.

Some experts believe discs are becoming injured all the time and the body is repairing these injuries itself. In fact, research suggests that it is best to wait and there is no real advantage to having QUICK low back surgery when it is determined a person has a herniated disc in the low back. It may heal on it’s own and there are nonsurgical treatments now to speed up the process or help initiate the process when the body is unable to.

BUT…just like the immune system is always battling germs and fighting disease (and some still get sick)…in some people the disc herniations do not repair themselves and they DO cause symptoms and loss of function….sometimes severe.  From my studies this occurs about 15% of the time and still amounts to a very large number of people. WHY?

Well…the discs get lodged and displaced in a certain way that puts pressure on the delicate spinal cord and nerve fibers and the body is unable to fix it. Then, the immune system attacks the area as if it were an enemy in a war over and over to prevent further harm (the inflammation process). The muscles go into spasms to protect the injured disc and restrict the motion that the disc needs to take in nutrients and waste products. The chain reaction can be devastating to some. The condition becomes chronic (over 90 days) and continues to degenerate until the nerve pressure can be removed.

Does this require surgery? Maybe…but maybe not!

There is a treatment called nonsurgical spinal decompression that is done on a machine that is designed and built to repair disc bulges and disc herniations in the low back and neck. The disc decompression machine we use in San Francisco is the DRX9000.

Just like a “respirator” helps the lungs to breath until they can do it on their own, a “spinal decompression machine” does the same thing for the spinal discs. The decompression process mimics the natural motion of the spine and helps to unlock the herniated discs and relocate them to a more normal position.

Now this does not happen overnight…it takes 20 one hour visits or more and a lot of effort by the patient and doctor. It is NOT a “magic bullet”. What it IS is the most technologically advanced nonsurgical treatment for herniated and bulging disc available in the marketplace today.

Our Spinal Decompression Clinic in San Francisco has been offering the DRX9000 to herniated disc patients as a surgical alternative for almost 10 years now. We introduced San Francisco to spinal decompression and we have helped thousands and thousands of patients avoid back surgery and return to more normal lives.

To find out if you are a candidate for nonsurgical spinal decompression in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225 and ask for a “complimentary consultation”. We validate parking at the Embarcadero Center in the Financial District where we are located.

Spinal Decompression for Bulging and Herniated Discs

herniated disc treatment in San Francisco
Pinched Lumbar Nerve Causing Sciatica

We have been treating bulging and herniated discs in San Francisco for over 20 years now. About 8 years ago we began to incorporate nonsurgical spinal decompression into the mix. The machines we use are the DRX9000 Lumbar Decompression system and the DRX9000c Cervical Decompression machine. The results have been outstanding.

Some common symptoms of herniated and bulging cervical and lumbar discs are as follows:

  • Low Back and Neck Pain
  • Arm and Leg Pain (sciatica)
  • Arm and Leg Weakness
  • Numbness and Tingling in the Arms and Legs
  • Weakness of Grip
  • Abnormal Gait
  • Night Pain

Nonsurgical spinal decompression therapy is able to repair the bulging disc and often times prevent disc herniation. And once a disc has herniated spinal decompression can help the disc heal and return to more normal function. Disc decompression elongates the spine, enlarges the disc space, re-positions the injured disc to a more normal position, re-hydrates the disc, and strengthens the spinal ligaments and tendons.

Success rates are very high and spinal decompression therapy has now become the gold standard for nonsurgical treatment of neurovascular compression syndromes such as herniated and cervical disc syndromes.

Spinal Decompression Therapy for Multi-Level Disc Herniations

drx9000 therapy san francisco, 94111
DRX9000 Lumbar Decompression

We have been providing spinal decompression therapy in San Francisco for 9 years now.  The most common symptoms we treat are low back pain, neck pain, sciatica, numbness and tingling, due to herniated or bulging discs in the low back and neck. During this time we have performed almost 20,000 spinal decompression treatments on the DRX9000, the disc decompression system we introduced to San Francisco.

It is not uncommon for prospective spinal decompression patients to present with disc herniations or disc bulges at multiple spinal levels. What happens is, the spine tries to adapt to the first herniation and it just becomes too much for the other spinal discs to handle, and over time they break down and herniate. All the discs are connected and are part of your spinal structure. This becomes a problem when you present to an orthpedic surgeon because they often times have trouble pin pointing which disc is the primary source of the pain and dysfunction. Heck…if you have say three spinal levels of disc herniations, whet are they going to do, operate on all of them? Maybe…but I would not do this if it were me.

This is one of the reasons nonsurgical spinal decompression makes so much sense for multi-level disc herniations. First of all the treatment is drug-less and does not involve surgery. Nothing is cut out. If you remove part of a spinal disc you remove part of your spinal structure. This can make the problem even worse…because the other parts of the spine have to compensate for the loss of structure by absorbing more stresses, predisposing them to disc degeneration, bulges and herniations.

Decompression machines such as the DRX9000 are able to isolate on specific disc herniations one at a time and seek to repair them naturally.

Disc decompression therapy elongates the spine, enlarges the disc space, re-positions the injured disc, rehydrates the disc, strengthens the spinal ligaments, and helps replace the surrounding scar tissue with healthier, more pliable, more normally functioning muscle tissue.

More often than not, patients that present with symptoms such as severe low back pain, sciatica, numbness, tingling, night pain, and many of the other symptoms associated with lumbar and cervical disc bulges and herniations, achieve favorable outcomes and ovoid risky surgery.

Does spinal decompression work every time? NO…just most of the time.

But here’s the deal…If spinal disc decompression fails to deliver results you are still whole and can explore other options. If you have surgery…especially multi-level disc surgery and fusion, you will never be able to try spinal decompression…you will be permanently disqualified. OUCH!

My Advice: Try spinal decompression first. The worse thing that can happen (in the unlikely event that spinal decompression fails to deliver) is you will be out some time and money. But you will still be whole and can explore other treatment options.

Spinal Decompression or Chiropractic?

drx9000 in san francisco
Spinal Decompression Therapy with DRX9000

We have been providing chiropractic treatment for herniated discs in San Francisco for over 20 years now. About 8 years ago we began to incorporate nonsurgical spinal decompression with the DRX9000 into our treatment protocols. The results have been outstanding.

So, how do we know if a herniated disc patient needs spinal decompression therapy or chiropractic care? Well…sometimes we don’t…yet!

Often times, a patient with severe low back pain and/or sciatica will present to our clinic and not have had either spinal decompression treatments or chiropractic care. Sometimes they have an MRI and sometimes they don’t.

We need an MRI to know where to apply spinal decompression, but since they are very expensive we don’t want to order one unless we really need it. And we always want to try chiropractic first if possible because chiropractic is much less expensive than spinal decompression and is covered by most insurance…decompression therapy is not.

Here’s a case history of a recent chiropractic, then spinal decompression patient we have been working with:

A 45 year old female presented to our clinic with severe low back pain and sciatica. She has a previous 15 history off on and off low back pain and sciatica but the symptoms have never been this bad. She had also had chiropractic in the past which helped. We decided together to try a month of chiropractic to see if it would help…and it did…a lot…at least for the low back pain…not the sciatica.

At this point we ordered a lumbar MRI which was covered by insurance. And we also satisfied the conservative care first requirements most carriers want to see before a chiropractor orders an MRI.

The MRI revealed a large extruded disc (disc herniation) at L5-S1 on the right which is contacting the nerve roots…OUCH! We are starting a 20 session spinal decompression treatment program today. We are excited because we have had great success with the DRX9000 with cases just like this. The patient is excited as well.

Now, if the low back pain and sciatica would have both resolved with chiropractic care than we would not have ordered the MRI. This happens frequently…more often than not. But if it doesn’t, than we need to go to the next step…which thankfully is not back surgery, it’s spinal decompression with the DRX9000.

So, whether we recommend chiropractic or decompression therapy for a lumbar disc herniation just depends…it depends on all of the above. There are also some patients who have such severe low back pain that we are unable to do chiropractic, but the patient can handle decompression….because it is very gentle…in these instances we order an MRI and move forward with spinal decompression.

The best thing to do if you feel you may have a herniated disc or if you already know, and want to find out if chiropractic or spinal decompression make sense, is to contact a spinal decompression doctor right away…most are chiropractors.

If you need help finding a doctor in your area with a DRX9000 I recommend doing a Google search like this “DRX9000 _________(your area)”. For example: DRX9000 San Francisco.  Let us know if you need help.

If you live or work in the SF Bay Area you can contact our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center at 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation. We validate parking at the Embarcadero Center.

Is Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression Safe?

drx9000 therapy san francisco, 94111
DRX9000 Lumbar Decompression

We have been providing nonsurgical spinal decompression therapy to the lumbar and cervical spine for 8 years now in San Francisco. The machines we use are the DRX9000 lumbar decompression system and the DRX9000c cervical decompression system.

We have performed well over 15,000 sessions during this time and we have never had a patient suffer a serious injury. Sure, we have had patients get sore…in fact, some soreness is expected. Every once in a while someone gets real sore but we are usually able to determine who is at risk and we start off very very light.

The reality is that disc decompression therapy is very safe and gentle. Either it will help you or it wont. But if it doesn’t, which is rare, you are still whole and can explore other treatment options for your herniated discs.

Many surgical procedures involve fusion with cement, wires, screws, etc. If you have one of these surgeries you will be forever disqualified from ever trying spinal decompression therapy. Why not try it first…you can always have surgery?

Heck…even a discectomy, which removes part of the disc…the part that is pressing on the spinal cord or nerve root, does not leave you whole. Your spinal disc is part of your spinal structure. When part of it is removed it alters the entire structure and predisposes you to more problems with other spinal segments later.  This is why so many people that have back or neck surgery need to have more surgery later.

Hey…sometime you just flat out need back or neck surgery…but many times you really don’t. You could have done the DRX9000 or DRX9000c and it would have worked.

So do yourself a favor…if you have a herniated disc in the neck or in the low back that is not responding to medical care, chiropractic, acupuncture, or whatever…or you have been told you need surgery…consider disc decompression first. At least check it out…you might be surprised.

To schedule an appointment for a complimentary consultation at our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center call 415-392-2225 and mention this blog.
